There are three absolute truths in Grayson Lee’s life:

 1. His existence was a mistake.

2. No one is good enough for his best friend, Lily Jacobs, especially not him.

3. He loves her anyway.

Excerpt:
“What are we doing here?” Lily asks as I shut and lock the door behind us, laughing when I wiggle my eyebrows at her. Her eyes narrow. “What deviant things do you have planned?”

“What deviant things do you want me to have planned?” I flip a set of light switches and the bar is partially lit up.

She shrugs. “You brought me to your favorite place. What do you intend to do with me?”

“Don’t you know by now?” I slowly make my way to her, my eyes trailing up the length of her black shorts and purple tank top and fixating on her eyes.

“Know what?” Lily swallows, fidgeting as I advance.

You, Lily Jacobs, are my favorite place.”

Lily starts to reply as I grab her around the waist and spin her around, loving the sound of the giggle she lets out, loving the way she feels in my arms, just loving her. Around and around we go, until I’m dizzy, until I try to stop and stumble instead. Lily squeals, clutching my arms when I sway on my feet. I stop us with my back against the edge of the counter of the bar, each of us catching our breath.

“Grayson, we’re in a bar.”

“Yep.”

“What are we doing here?”

I look around said bar, my eyes lingering on the jukebox in the far corner of the room. “We’re going to play music.”

“Music. Got it.”

A grin captures my mouth. “And we’re going to dance.”

Lily nods her head. “Dancing. Check.”

“And maybe even sing.”

“I am not singing, Grayson!”

“Aw, come on. It’ll be fun. We can sing a duet, Sonny and Cher or something.”

Something that sounds strangely like a curse is muttered by Lily and my grin deepens as I start the jukebox. ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’ by Avril Lavigne slams through the room, causing Lily to jump.

“Did you even ask your bosses if this was okay? Are we going to be arrested?” she shouts, cupping her mouth with her hands.

An eye roll is the only acknowledgement her words get. I walk into the open room used for EY, stop in the middle of the room, and motion to her. “Come on. Don’t be shy.”

Her arms uncross and she does an eye roll especially for me, but Lily is smiling. She sporadically shakes her hips as she makes her way to me, dipping backward at one point and making my mouth go dry. She defied the laws of gravity with that move. My girlfriend is awesome.

“Okay, Grayson. You asked for it. Just remember that,” she says as she tugs the ponytail holder from her hair and shakes out the black waves. Lily messes up her hair, purses her lips, and starts jumping up and down in a circle, completely shameless as she jams out to Avril. I watch her, mesmerized and astounded, and so completely turned on it is embarrassing.

She grabs my hands, pulling me along with her. We move together, ours hips bumping, our fingers entwining and releasing, laughing as we give in to the pull of the beat. ‘Cecilia’ by Simon and Garfunkel plays after that. I sing along, bouncing to the music, Lily grinning widely as she dances with me. Endless minutes pass with us in the throes of sound and being carefree. This moment, right now, is one I will cherish for all time. Even as I am living it, I understand the significance of this span of time. We are free, laughing, and in love.

My Review: 5 stars
This was an amazing book. I love, love reading from a guys point of view, and this one was awesome to say the least. I loved the thought that Grayson put into everything that he did and said. I loved that he tortured himself by trying to stay away from Lily - not because he tortured himself, but because he was thinking of her and putting her feelings first. I am so pissed off at Lily right now. I can't believe that she would do what she did to him. Then to keep sending him things, leaving things for him. She can't have it both ways. What she did was worse in my opinion, because he at least was trying to be honorable about it. She was selfish, and while I understand why she did what she did, it doesn't mean that it made things any better for either of them. And that last bit she pulled. Damn. Rip a guys heart out, why don't you? Bitch. I'm just pissed at her right now for hurting Grayson so badly. I really can't wait for the second book to come out to find out what happens next. I really think that Grayson deserves a HEA ending after everything he's been through, and I hope he gets it. As you can see, Lindy does a great job of getting at least me to connect with her characters. The storyline was just beautiful, painful, heart-wrenching, joyful, and so many other emotions that make you feel too deeply. I loved this book. I highly recommend it.

Excerpt:

Obsidian's reverie was cut short as she realized her own grave error. “Pyre watch out!” She yelled.

Pyre snapped his head in the direction of Obsidian's frantic yell, but indeed he had been too late. A flurry of white feathers slammed into his right flank sending him spiraling out of the sky.

His talons ripped into the side of the feathered beast, which returned the gesture in kind as their forms, a ball of red scale and white feather continued their less than graceful dive.

“This ends now dragon!” the feathered one hissed in a feminine voice as her talons dug into Pyre's flank.

Pyre growled low in his throat as he finally shook the Anjyl off. “Why are you doing this?! Your kind and mine are practically cousins. Why turn on us like this?”

A laugh akin to the tinkling of bells left the feathered dragon, her gray depths burned into the dragon's with malice.

“Your kind is thorn in our sides. We cannot fully control the 'God' fearing creatures with you around.”

Pyre had heard enough, he flew at the Anjyl and gripped her left wing in with his front taloned paws, his back ones came to land on the feathered female's underside where his talons dug deeply in.  His back legs gave a sharp kick outward as his front legs pulled the wing toward his own body.

The Anjyl's eyes widened. Her sleek feathered head shook vigorously back and forth causing the thick standalone whiskers on either side of her muzzle to dance in the wind. Then, she gave out of a blood curdling screech of pain as the sound of popping bone, tissue, and feathered flesh broke through the howl of the rushing wind.

A smirk crossed Pyre's maw as he released the now useless wing. “Your kind will never be better than us Anjyl. If you survive, tell your Oni we will not fall prey to you... Hunt us again and it will be the Anjyl's that become the prey!”

He kicked out once more letting his wings unfurl to catch the upward current of the wind. His talons mucked with feathers, flesh, and gore, he gave a shrug knowing he had wasted his breath. Even as he watched, his wings giving the occasional flap to keep himself aloft, The Anjyl was falling. When she hit the water head first and did not resurface he knew it had been an wasted effort.

Above him, where the rest of the fighting sectors of the horde were, he heard growls and the clash of talons. Angling himself he began his ascent back to his brother's side, dodging the many breaths of acid, and the falling of Anjyls.

“I'm glad you're okay Pyre.” Oceanus grunted as Pyre came up beside him.
Pyre latched his maw on the neck of the large Anjyl male that was trying very much in vain to knock Oceanus from the sky. “I told you I can take care of myself.”  Was the muffled reply as the male went limp in Pyre's jaw.

Pyre let the Anjyl drop to join his kin in the bottom of the ocean. Pyre's amber depths noted the purple hue to the once blue water and had to wonder to himself if it would ever return to normal after this fight.

As the last Anjyl fell to its final resting place, Oceanus let out a strong bellow. The children, Rose, and the others lifted from the small island to rejoin the ranks of the horde. Oceanus knew the browns were a bit miffed at being left out of the fight, He also knew that Rose's Xosha required every brown dragon there to be found.

“We no longer have time and distance on our side. I'm sure that horde were not the only ones. Their leader was not among their numbers. We must make haste to our new home now. We cannot afford another battle. Many of you are injured now and the will to carry on is diminished, but you must continue forward! We all seek the freedom and peace of Rose's Xosha, we must stay together to achieve it!” Oceanus' voice was strong, though as he looked over his small band of dragons his heart grew heavy. They had lost at least three in that fight., they could not afford to lose any more.

Book Trailer:

Pyre:
Pyre is Oceanus’ younger brother, born to the second clutch their parents had. While age wise, he is considered an adult, his actions deem him an adolescent in Oceanus’ eyes. Pyre can be brave, and is always stubborn. Being a red dragon, Pyre can control and manipulate fire at will.

Jade:
The youngest sibling to Oceanus and Pyre, born to the last clutch their parents had before the humans arrived. Reaper Rose:
Alpha of the Rose pack, the main wolf pack in the Solstyce Woods. Reaper had a rough life and earned his place as alpha. Asami:
A hellhound found in the belly of Shai’Pyre. She and her pack of five were deemed traitors by Fury though it is unclear why. Fury is five foot two with gold eyes.

Devlin Darkthorn:
Once a Silver Elf, he was the first of Elrur’s “experiments” to create an intelligent, obedient killing machine. Now deemed a Silver Fang , Devlin’s skin has a sickly palor to it, his hair is a dull black, his eyes grey, and to remain on his feet, he must drink blood.

Caterina Darkthorn:
Caterina is Devlin’s mate. The second of Elrur’s twisted Silver Fangs. While obedient to her king, Caterina has blonde hair that falls mid back and eyes a deep sapphire.

Excerpt:

“Jealous are we? I’ve got your attention didn’t I? You were kind of paying more attention to the books than me.” Michael gave a wicked grin, carefully shelved the book back into its space and placed his hands on her waist. Peering down at her eyes, his body pressed into hers.
“You’re not looking for a book boyfriend, are ya?” His tone was low and playfully challenging.
“Now, who’s the jealous one?” Claudia’s finger traced his lips. Michael slightly turned his head and teasing licked and nipped her finger. “No, I don’t have a book boyfriend cause only a real boyfriend could make me do what I just did, Mr. Michael. You made me wet.”
