Excerpt
“I have one tiny piece of my heart left,” I whisper as I close my eyes, not believing this is really happening. “One tiny piece, and I’m handing it over to you. Just, please….please be gentle with it. Because if something were to happen between us, God, I’ll be done. I’ll have nothing left. Losing you will destr-….. ” Before I’m able to finish, he leans in, grabbing the back of my neck, and kisses me.
His teeth softly tug at my bottom lip, forcing my mouth open.
A faint moan escapes my lips the second I feel his tongue invade me.
Gripping my waist, he lifts me up, and his hands move to the back of my thighs, holding me in place. Without breaking contact from our kiss, he carries me into the bedroom and lays me down on the bed, staying directly on top of me.
“I’ve waited a lifetime to hear you say those words. You’re it for me, princess. You’re all I’ll ever need.” Nibbling on my neck, then back up to my ear, he pushes up on his elbows and hits me with that sexy as hell smile.
“When you’re sad, I’ll be the one to cheer you up. When the world disappoints you, I’ll protect you and hold you close to my heart. I refuse to let anyone hurt you or take advantage of you again.”
Tears slowly drip from the corners of my eyes, except this time, it’s not caused from pain. For once in my life I am happy, pushing the past behind me.
“When you need to cry, it’ll be my arms that hold you. You’ll never feel alone again.” Lifting my shirt, he keeps his eyes trained on mine and continues speaking.
“I’ll worship the ground you walk on, take care of you, and love you until the end of time. You were made for me, Lani Renee’.
The feel of his lips run back across my mouth and I hold him there, refusing to let go. Unclasping my bra, his callused fingers rub over top of my nipple, forcing me to squirm, while his other hand inches underneath my cotton shorts, heading directly to my aching spot.
“I’m going to show you what it feels like to be cherished, to feel loved. And after tonight, you’re mine. I’m never letting you go.”
I’m scared he’s going to hurt me once this is over. I don’t think I could ever go through another heartache. But instead of running like I’ve always done, I decide not to let fear control me any longer. Tonight is about new beginnings, it’s about starting over. And tonight, I’m going to see what it feels like to let him love me.

EXCERPT

She slipped past him, and onto the wings of the stage. Her gaze fell on Mr. Voice who was tall, dark and smokin’ hot.
Holy shit, I want to lick him.
Scuffed combat boots were laced up over black leather pants that clung to muscular thighs, and his black shirt molded to the most impressive set of abs she had ever seen. Roxy wanted to trace the ridges with her fingertips.
He turned, his voice dropping low as his eyes locked on hers. His words enveloped her. “… you’re the only one.”
Her heart paused a beat before slamming into her chest at a rapid pace. His full mouth lifted into a grin that spoke of confidence as he held her full attention. Entranced, she fell deep into his eyes and the world stopped.
Until a drumstick hit him in the head. He looked over his shoulder and shrugged sheepishly at his drummer before turning back to launch into the next verse.
Mikey gently shook her shoulder. “Hey, Rox, come on. We have to warm up.”
Her head bobbed in a nod at her brother, but she didn't look over. She muttered, “Yeah, give me a minute,” or longer.
As if he heard, Mr. Voice glanced over and winked at her before the next song started. “Blinded by beauty, falling at first sight, head over heels…” There was raw passion in his voice, and she couldn't help wishing he was singing about her.

Rising Assets (A Maverick Montana Novel) by Rebecca Zanetti with Giveaway & Review

Rising Assets
by: Rebecca Zanetti

Synopsis:
Friends with benefits was never the plan…
Melanie Jacobs is in trouble. With three jobs—including running her ranch—and dwindling funds, she’s exhausted. Not to mention desperately trying to hide a secret. Unfortunately, her best friend Colton Freeze knows all too well that’s something is going on, and he won’t give up until he knows exactly what he needs to fix.
Then Colton learns the truth—that Melanie’s future happiness rests in the fickle hands of fate, and her chances for having a family are shrinking with every passing day. Her only comfort is Colton, but when a heated argument between them turns into an even hotter kiss, the boundaries of their friendship are erased, leaving only a scorching-hot hunger for more.
Every kiss—every touch—is a stolen pleasure. But will their new friends-with-sexy-benefits arrangement bring them closer together, or destroy everything they once shared?
My Review: 4 1/2 stars
This was a very enjoyable read. I really liked that Colton tried to not fall for Melanie. I liked that his family was behind him 100%, no matter what. I thought Melanie and Colton were great for each other, but they were stubborn. Neither wanted to risk the friendship that they had for so long by going further. Until one night, a kiss changes everything. Then neither one of them can stop thinking about what would happen if the other ended up with someone else. They continue to torture themselves by insisting that they are just friends, even while they think different things. There's also a long standing bet going around town on what date one or the other will declare their love for the other. Melanie is also dealing with medical issues, and once Colton becomes involved, things heat up quickly. There are a few twists and turns besides the ones I've mentioned, but it's a great read. I enjoyed every page. I loved the ending, and when you find out who the bet taker is - that is hilarious!

My Review: 5 stars
I loved this book just as much as I loved the first book, but maybe even just a little bit more. Where Lick was pretty intense, this book was so Mal. Playful and half the time you didn't know if he was serious or not. He was definitely the life of the party. I loved that while Mal was playful, he was still intense in his own way. He was pretty determined not to be serious, but meeting Anne changed that for him. Mal may not have know it,  but when he got involved with Anne, it was one of the best decisions he ever made. They have different problems and deal with them in different ways, yet they are there to support each other when needed, no questions asked. Anne is the serious one. She's had to deal with a lot, and had to be the one who put others first for a long time. The day she meets Mal is the best and worst day of her life. I loved Anne's internal thoughts, she cracked me up almost as much as Mal.

Malcolm Ericson is a conundrum, but a loveable one at least. I laughed a lot while reading this book, and that was a complete bonus for me. Mal was just hilarious, but meant everything he said, especially when it came to Anne. Yup, conundrum. He's difficult to figure out, but eventually Anne does. Their relationship begins with him asking her to be his fake girlfriend and her coming home to find out that he really did move in her house. She had thought he was drunk and wouldn't remember her, much less what he had said at the party the night before. I loved that Anne made him re-think many things. She downplayed a lot of things, while Mal was over-the-top dramatic. But he took Anne very seriously, he just didn't know how to show that side of himself, when he did so. I loved that he would do anything for her, if she asked. They were the perfect balance for each other. Mal and Anne's story is completely different from David and Evelyn, but just as intense. One of my favorite scenes was when they ended up in the bathtub. And also the night she made him doubt his kissing ability and affect.

Kylie has done a fantastic job with this book, and I fell in love with Mal's sense of humor, and his ability to switch just like that and be completely serious, at least when it came to Anne. I really loved what happened with Reece, that jerk. I think he got what he deserved. Anne was stronger for it, and learned where her heart really lay and with whom. I love the character development for everyone in the band, and it was really nice to read about how in love David and Evelyn still were. I loved how all the guys in the band included Anne in everything, and made her feel welcome. I can't wait to see what Kylie has in store for Ben and Jimmy. If I could give more stars, I'd give it 20. this book has been running through my head for the last two days, and it's one that I will re-read as soon as I get the chance, because I enjoyed it so much.

Excerpt:
She rustled some papers in front of her. “I left a few letters on your desk that need your signature.”

Her eyes kept flickering back and forth to him and she was biting her lip. It was obvious she wanted to say something else.

“What?” He folded his arms across his chest. “What is it?”

She tilted her head. “I noticed a few things in your office…”

“Such as?”

She spun her chair around so she was facing him, her arm brushing against his knee. There was a mischievous glint in her eye as she counted things off on her fingers. “Such as the Captain Picard figure next to your computer. The signed picture of Leonard Nimoy. The framed Firefly script on the wall, next to the Star Wars cast photo.” She leaned forward, “But what I really want to know is, is that a genuine Star Trek communicator you’ve got in the glass case?”

Unexpected. Totally left field. A fellow sci-fi freak. Fantastic.

This woman just got better and better.

He laughed. “You’re every guy’s dream date, aren’t you?”

She started playing with the top button on her shirt, deliberately twiddling it between her finger and thumb, almost as if she were about to undo it… “Well, is it?”

He leaned forward. “You mean you didn’t try and pry the glass apart to see?”

“Of course I did. Any self-respecting Trekkie would.” She held up a finger to reveal a slightly bent nail. “Unfortunately I didn’t have my sonic screwdriver with me.”

He wiped his brow in mock relief. “Thank goodness. You have no idea what I had to do to get that.” He lifted his eyebrows, “Or who I had to operate on.”

Her eyes widened, the excitement clearly visible. “Spill,” she demanded.

He shook his head. “Oh no. My lips are sealed. I could tell you, but then I’d need to kill you with my genuine from-the-set light saber.”

She let out a shriek and jumped up from her seat. “You haven’t?”

“I have.”

“Luke’s or Darth Vader’s?”

He winked. “I could tell you, but I’d have to kill you. Hollywood secrets.”

There was something so nice about this. Someone else who appreciated his love of all things sci-fi. And this wasn’t some ploy to try and endear herself to him. No woman could possibly know all these things without being a true fellow fan. Finally someone he could talk to about who was the best Star Trek captain, and which was the best Star Wars film.

The last woman he’d dated had given an obvious shiver of distaste when she’d seen his collection - the kind that made him feel like a high school geek. Not the most romantic turn-on in the world.

Selena collapsed into the chair next to him and threw her hands in the air. “If you’re not going to share, I’ll let you know right now I’ll find a way of making you talk.”

He laughed. “Told you, my lips are sealed.”

She shook her head. “I should be finishing up. I’m getting tired and want to get home and to bed.” She shot him a sideways glance. “Home to watch my favorite episode of Star Trek with the Borg.”

He tried not to grin. He couldn’t resist, no matter how hard he tried. “Do you always go to bed early, Selena? You don’t strike me as the type.” The smell of her perfume was drifting into his nostrils. It was sultry. Something sensuous and spicy. Their gaze met. That green again. Even in this dim light it was impressive. Kind of like the eyes you would expect on a temptress or a siren, wooing men in just by looking at them. He couldn’t stop smiling around her.

Nor could he stop the range of X-rated thoughts he was having about her.
Helen would kill me. Twice, without a second thought.

Then there was the fact she was paying off a bill and the fact she’d told him she’d just been dumped by her boyfriend. The last thing he wanted was a rebound fling.
But he wasn’t listening. Not at all.

There was a glint of fire in her eyes and a devilish grin on her face. She was an experienced woman. She definitely knew the art of flirtation. “What do I strike you as?”

He felt an instant response in his body—one that was entirely inappropriate for their surroundings. Since when did she sound so husky? Boy, she was good.

My Review: 3 1/2 stars
This was a pretty good story about Selena and Colt. Selena is a mess, she just got kicked out of her boyfriends apartment. She found out by walking home to find all her belongings being thrown out the window. Nice, right? She goes to a plastic surgeon to have her head looked at where she suddenly finds herself not only without a home, but also without any money. Colt is a doctor at the surgical clinic that Selena shows up to. He is responsible for firing the last receptionist, and stitches up Selena. They have some serious chemistry, but nothing can happen between a doctor and patient. When Selena talks Colt into letting her work off what she owes the clinic by filling in for the next month as receptionist, things get a little heated and only get hotter as the month goes by. There's also someone from the clinic who's been letting out the celebrity secrets and a few other things going on. This was a fun, quick read that has a little heat, a little sizzle, a little laughter and some Sci-Fi fandom going on. Scarlet kept things going with a few twists and turns and I enjoyed the end. The characters were fun, quirky and most were pretty nice, there's always that one jerk, you know? Anyway, pick this up if you're looking for a light, fun read that has a little bit of everything.

Excerpt-

When he came back around to the front of the barn, she was sitting on top of a bale of hay, holding up a brown paper back with a grease stain on the bottom. Mooch, traitor that he was, perched at her feet, looking up at her adoringly, waiting for her to drop the bag.

“Mama sent some chicken and biscuits.”

He grunted an acknowledgment, and pulled his hat lower over his eyes so he didn't have to see the pain in hers.

She stood, setting the bag down next to her, and sauntered over to the stall where he was spreading fresh straw.

“What’s wrong?”

He couldn't think of the words to say to her. Everything that came to mind was wrong, and Brent knew that there was no way to have this conversation without hurting her. But he had to, or else he would end up hurting her worse in the long run.

As he kicked straw around the floor of the stall, he knew he was being stupid. For the last two weeks, all he’d talked about was how badly he wanted her to stay with him. And now he was about to do this…

He finally stopped when she said, “Brent. You’re scaring me. Is this about me not being able to have kids?”

“No.” Brent brushed past her to go to the feed room. Rattling the bucket brought in the mare, an enormous equine with a shaggy coat and bones showing through loose skin. She followed him into the stall, as he emptied the bucket into her feed trough, and then started pulling the injections from his pockets and preparing them silently.

When he had the first one ready, he finally got the guts to raise his head and look at Casey and deliver the brilliant line he’d spent the past ten minutes coming up with. “I need to think about some stuff.”

Her mouth dropped, and Brent lowered his head to the mare’s shoulder. While she was distracted, eating, he pinched some skin between his gloved fingers and stuck in the needle, pushing the plunger.

Brent had no idea what happened next. All he was aware of was a swift intake of breath, before he saw a wall of brown crush into him, then a jumble of whinnies, a frantic woof, a shrill scream, some clatters, then hoofs aimed at his chest, before blackness took over.
