Undressed by Avery Aster Spotlight & Review

Synopsis:
Book 1 in The Manhattanites series.
Milan’s notorious playboy, Massimo Tittoni, seems to have everything–Lamborghinis, exotic women, palaces throughout Europe and business success. Ramping up his fabric company to go global with a new apparel brand, he ruthlessly stops supplying fabrics to the American client who inspired the collection. But once they meet, what’s he willing to give to get her in his bed?

Upper East Side designer Lex Easton will be damned if she’ll let an Italian stud muffin knock her down. So what if she named her favorite vibrator after him. With Fashion Week approaching, she’ll do whatever it takes to secure the fabrics she needs to become the next Diane von Furstenburg– even sleep with her rival. But when she arrives in Europe the paparazzi chronicles her every move and she finds herself in a situation never imagined. Lex’s Louboutins stilettos are dug in deep to win this war. All’s fair in love and fashion!

Avery Aster’s super-glossy debut novel is loaded with passionate escapism, pitting American ambition against Italian tradition. Erotic romance fans who appreciate extended sex scenes, witty banter and glamour mustn’t miss Undressed.

Inside Scoop: Though the hero and heroine remain monogamous, their Prada-wearing friends indulge in a ménage a trois and other fashionable sexual fun and games.

The Manhattanites is a series of full length novels focusing on relationships. Each book may be read as a stand alone and features a HEA w/ closure for the couple’s story. If you’ve enjoyed TV shows like Girls (HBO), Dirty Sexy Money (ABC), and The Bold & the Beautiful (CBS) then you’ll love this series. Avery’s characters are over the top. They have raunchy sex, speak their minds and always get what they want.

Content Warning: due to graphic sex scenes, strong language, suggestive themes, mature humor, and just about everything your mother ever told you not to do–including wearing a see-through dress, this novel is for adults only.

My Review: 5 stars
This was a really fun read. I couldn't get enough of Lex and Massimo. I really enjoyed the chemistry between them - whew! Intense is one way of saying it. One of the other things I loved about reading this book was the internal monologue going on with either Lex or Massimo. I literally laughed out loud when Lex started praying to fashion designers. For Massimo, his internal monologue was the complete opposite of what came out of his mouth most of the time. A damn sexy contradiction, with Italian dripping from that extremely talented mouth that just made it even hotter. Fabulous! It goes without saying that the sex scenes in this book were so hot I had to put the book down a few times and take a break. Holy hotness!! But I couldn't stay away for long with the curiousity burning in me, wanting to know what happened next.

I learned a little more about fashion and it was creative and interesting to me, since that's so far from my reality. The storyline was complex and well written. Lex and Massimo both have their own demons to deal with, and they learn from each other, lean on each other, and learn to trust each other. Until things get out of their control, when it really matters do they run? Or have they learned their lessons? I also rather liked the way that Lex's friends jumped to her defense and took her side when things did get out of hand. That's true friendship. Avery did a bang up job writing this book. The characters are brilliantly written, completely believeable, and oh my jaysus sensual in a completely uninhibited manner. Not just the main characters either - all of them. I loved Jemma, Taddy, Vive and Blake; they are who they are and don't care what anyone else thinks of them. I just want to know - Are all Italians like Massimo? Because reading this book was enough to make me want to go to Italy just to find one. Undressed is sexy, fun, hot as hades, and a treat to read. If everything Avery writes is like this, she's permanently on my to read list with very good reason.

I received a copy of this book from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

AVERY ASTER pens erotic romance for Ellora's Cave. As a resident of New York's Upper East Side and a graduate from New York University, Avery gives readers an inside look at the city's glitzy nightlife, socialite sexcapades and tall tales of the über-rich and ultra-famous. "I write about what I see in my metropolis that never sleeps--Manhattanites on the quest for a passionate thrill," Avery says. "By and large, my characters are drop-dead gorgeous, ripped straight from the headlines and on the hunt for their next conquest."

Guest Post by Cate Masters, Author of Charmed, The Vitruvian Man Book 2

Charmed!

Serendipity. Gotta love it! Especially when it relates to writing.

Many times, I'll come across something that plays into the story I'm working on at the time. It might not appear related on the surface, but somehow, it fits perfectly.

For Cursed, the first book of The Vitruvian Man series, three very
First, a magazine article about Carnevale, the 10-day masquerade festival in Venice stayed with me long after I finished it. Then background information on Leonardo da Vinci kept niggling in my mind. Another article on studies of the "love drug" oxytocin added to that story line.

Charmed was no different. I don't know how I managed to find it, but an article in Nature magazine caught my eye about storing data--in human DNA. One of those off-the-wall experiments that sound like science fiction, but scientists actually performed it successfully. I don't claim to understand it, but I found it fascinating. A book, including graphics, translated into binary code and bound to DNA strings. Now that's amazing!

And too good to pass over. It made for a perfect plot twist, something the villains never saw coming but also complicated matters between Bruno and Melina, my hero and heroine.

And I sent for a few books about magic as well, so that I could wrap my head around it a little better. Did I attempt any spells? Nah. Not really. Well maybe one. :) Writers have to get inside their characters heads, don't we?

Like Cursed, Charmed mixes a little science with magic. Because as Arthur C. Clarke so aptly put it:  Magic's just science that we don't understand yet.

Today's the official release day for Charmed! Woot! You can find it at Decadent Publishing: www.decadentpublishing.com and soon at other online bookstores.

Excerpt:
She tilted her head back, and I planted a wet kiss on her mouth. I pulled back quickly, shocked at the spark I felt when our lips had met, and I kept dancing as she laced her fingers through mine on her hips. She grinned up at me, and I found that I really enjoyed just looking down at her gorgeous face.

I leaned down close to her ear, and I caught a whiff of her scent. She smelled like a citrus picnic on a summer day. I wanted to spread out a blanket and make myself comfortable.

“I’m moving out of Arizona in two days,” I said.

Her grin widened when I pulled back, and she reached up and curled her hand around my neck, pulling me down so her lips feathered against my ear.

“Perfect. I’m looking for something without strings anyway.”

Did she really just say that? She wanted it as much as I did.

She had given me permission to ravish her for just one night.

This was the perfect woman.

Spotlight and Review of Hope(less) by Melissa Haag

Synopsis: Our world is being judged and we remain unaware.

In a world filled with people, Gabby is uniquely alone. The tiny glowing sparks filling her mind that represent the people around her, confirm it as does the bizarre inexplicable draw she has on men.

Struggling to find an explanation for her sight while dodging unwanted male attention, Gabby meets Sam. The chance encounter leads to a startling revelation - werewolves are real.

Hoping the existence of something so extraordinary might lead to the answers she is seeking, Gabby enters into a hidden society where fur is optional. There she meets Clay, the werewolf delusional enough to think he has a chance with her. Gabby's plans for her future do not include a mate, but rather college, career, and then a huge 'we'll see'.

Gabby leaves the furry hidden society behind when she moves off to college, but trouble has a way of following and finding her. When other werewolves start stalking her, and anomalies in the sparks she sees begin to appear, she must count on Clay's help or risk loosing the chance to find the answers she searches for.

My Review:  5 stars
Melissa has outdone most other werewolf writers, in my opinion. She has taken the genre and made it her own. Writing her own world and how she believes things to be in it. I have never learned in such detail, the inner workings of a pack. The deliberateness of protecting the females who are unmated. The entire process just was spectaular to me. I love reading about werewolves - I love paranormal anything. And this was written so beautifully. The pace of the book was steady and measured, always ramping up for more.

Gabby is a human who can be a mate for a werewolf. She's a bit different though. She sees everyone as sparks of different colors, most are the same - those are the humans. Then there are the others. Those are the ones that want her, and some are dangerous. Gabby meets Clay at the last meeting before heading off to college. She feels something for him that she hasn't felt for anyone. He's a bit different too. The many different ways that he shows Gabby that he cares are staggering. All without saying a word to her. I loved reading about how Gabby and Clay got to know each other. His firm, yet gentle, unwavering way of showing her that he cared. This is a love story that is just wonderfully written. With characters who were at different times stubborn, funny, fragile, caring, doubtful, frightened, strong, determined; so many adjectives I could write here. Beautifully done Melissa. I look forward to your next book with anticipation.

Meet Melissa:

Melissa Haag lives in Wisconsin with her vivid imagination, husband and three children.  She began writing a few years ago when some ideas just refused to be ignored any longer, and finds writing in third person difficult.

Spotlight and Excerpt - Rest Inn Peace by Bonnie Bernard

Blurb – Rest Inn Peace

Rest Inn Peace is a charming bed and breakfast nestled in a magical grove on the outskirts of Yellowstone National Park, next to an old cemetery packed with brain-starved zombies. The inn is home to dragons, fairies, talking animals and ghosts. The welcome-wagon committee is a creepy statue and a crazy manager. For Cobra and his 12 year old daughter Zoe, inheriting the inn is anything but a delightful family rest stop and it brings out the worst in them both; after all, fairies and dragons aren’t even real – are they? Cobra wants to take his kid and run, but where will they go? The outside world is crumbling, people are hungry and desperate. When Cobra takes over running the Inn, murders begin to plague the small town of Broken Spur Valley with a frightening regularity. Is there a connection between their arrival and those mysterious murders?

Excerpt -Rest Inn Peace
The Beginning - Fairy Bad
“Prepare to die.” Unsheathing a knife from his well-worn leather waistband, the robust fairy with the fragile pink wings directed its tip at Cobra’s chest.

“What the hell?” Cobra exclaimed, releasing the Harley’s throttle and grabbing the brake a little too hard as the flying menace appeared from thin air and flew straight at his oncoming motorcycle.

“Hell has nothing on me, white man.” The fairy landed ten feet in front of the motorcycle as Cobra lowered his left foot and forced the bike to a squirrely stop. Zoe’s head knocked against his back.

“Ow,” she complained. “My nose. Why’d you stop so suddenly?”

“Unexpected incoming object,” Cobra answered, his gaze focused on the seven foot tall creature holding the knife, its blade glinting against the afternoon sunlight. If the monster had jumped in front of the bike while Cobra and Zoe were still barreling down the highway at sixty mph instead of lumbering up a dirt driveway at ten, there’d be no preparing – they’d already be dead.

“Warn me next time,” Zoe griped. “My nose is all bent out of shape now.”

When isn’t it? Cobra thought.

Craning her neck over his shoulder to scan the scene ahead, Zoe scoffed. “And I don’t see any incoming object, Dad. Stop BS-ing me.”

“Yeah, BS-ing,” Cobra muttered as he glowered at the creature before him. The creature glowered back – enormous, ferocious, and with a Native American savagery Cobra had only seen in old cowboy movies. Snuggles, strapped in the pet crate behind Zoe, yapped and growled.

“Your child does not see me,” the fairy said in a booming voice befitting his size.

“Good,” Cobra muttered under his breath. The less crazy crap Z got exposed to, the better.

“But that doesn’t make me any less real,” the giant clarified with a flutter of his dainty wings. “Don’t speak, white man. Just listen. I understand you are Selma’s grandson. Now you understand something; it’s my job to protect this property from ex-con shitheads like you. My name is Billy, I’m the guard dog here, and I’ll rip off your scalp and shove it up your ass before I’ll let harm come to this peaceful place. Got it?”

Cobra silently nodded because saying, “kiss my ass, fairy man” seemed stupid.

Good.” Billy grinned scornfully. “Keep the peace, or die. It’s that simple.” He retracted the knife, fluttered his wings some more, and disappeared just as quickly as he’d shown up. Cobra blinked hard and shook his head.

“Hey, Dad,” Zoe jabbed her finger against his shoulder. “Who’s that lady on the porch?”

Cobra planted his other foot on the ground and killed the Harley’s engine, trying to shake away the freaky image. Then he glanced up, his gaze following the long, dirt driveway to its curve in front of a white Victorian farmhouse with red trim. On the old-fashioned wide porch stood an attractive brunette in white stretchy pants, a matching tank top, her hair done up in a messy bun. She pushed her glasses up higher on the bridge of her nose like a geek girl then folded her arms across an abundant chest. A fat, fluffy beige cat stretched out on the table beside her. The pair surveyed Cobra suspiciously from under a sign that read:

Welcome to Rest Inn Peace…Where Life Begins At The End Of The Road.

Meet a few Rest Inn Peace residents –
Zoe – Inherited the ability to see fairies and other magic from her dad…who was just voted the town serial killer. Twelve years old and stuck in Podunk, Zoe’s problems don’t end with her dastardly-daddy. She also has one best friend who’s afraid of bacon, another that loves peanut butter and sardine sandwiches, and a third who’s in love with a dandelion seed. Why can’t anything ever be normal?

Cobra – Has trouble staying out of jail and away from the lady in red. He hates that Zoe got her crazy streak from him, and wishes his drug-addicted ex-wife would come along and take the kid off his hands. He’s hooked on beer…and it appears he’s killing people in his sleep.

Reggie – The girl next door. She talks with gargoyles and trolls the way normal people talk with the mailman. Rest Inn Peace is her dream-come-true, but the inn’s new, disbelieving ex-con owner is a nightmare. Can Reggie save her beloved bed-and-breakfast from the wrecking ball, or will the man with the shady past destroy the whole planet with his obstinate stupidity?

Foxy – Frequent Rest Inn Peace guest and once-famous disco-feverin’ disc jockey from the 1970s. He loves the night life and wants to boogie, so if you’re up for a hot night with a cold corpse, Foxy’s your ladies’ man!
Sheriff Million – Under his vigilant watch, cow tippers are sent packing and the zombies only snack on geezerly church ladies. As far as the sheriff is concerned, everything in Broken Spur would be plumb-perfect, if not for that mysterious serial killer. Still, Million is a humdinger of a law and order man, keeping his remote rural town locked and loaded…and the goats well-fed.

Faest – Can’t fly straight or see clearly, plus he’s easily sidetracked by organic broccoli and pink flamingoes. But don’t let that worry you. Faest is a fierce fire-dragon from the royal lineage of Mythical Protectors. No matter the odds, if you’re under his wing he will keep you safe…or burn down your house trying.

Blanche and Henry – They would gladly snack on your brain if not for Sheriff Million, whose zombie-bribery tactics will always keep you safe. Well, unless you sneak out of church during the sermon, in which case Blanche will probably snap your neck. Piousness is next to godliness, after all.

Meet Bonnie Bernard -

Bonnie Bernard is the alter ego of a fiery redhead who lives in the Rocky Mountains with her husband, Doug. They share their old haunted home with a mutt named Gilligan and a pair of spoiled rotten cats.
Bonnie likes to write paranormal fiction, play outside, make a difference in the world, and eat obsessive amounts of dark chocolate and hummus (but not together). She is a two-time demolition derby champion, a doggy foster mom, and she paid her way through college by clowning around.
Bonnie has six published books. They’re like tattoos; why stop until the flesh is completely covered?

Dean Murray was the devil in disguise and had left behind enough broken hearted women to populate a small country. Angela would know. She was an expert markswoman who was skillfully self-trained at shooting down the good, the bad and the ugly of all masculine targets. After all, as the owner of the most successful strip club in Dallas, Texas, it was her business to know men.

Just as she begins to fall for Dean's silky words and passionate ways, her past and present unexpectedly collide and a meticulously planned future turns into unpredictable chaos. Biography
Every story holds insight into the writer's soul. If the soul can't be found, the writer didn't bleed enough. ~ M.L. Stephens
I've been writing poetry and short stories for as long as I can remember. As life's challenges became more demanding, I put my love aside and worked the 9-5, always making one excuse after another as to why I didn't have the time to follow my dream. At the age of 40, I decided that my excuses were empty. If I wouldn't allow excuses from my children, then how could I accept them from myself. I opened up my laptop, typed the first word, and I fell deeper in love than before.

Spotlight on Suddenly Beautiful by Boone Brux with Review

Blurb: Being the son of Aphrodite isn’t a walk in the clouds. Rebelling against his demi-god status, billionaire make-up mogul Toraos Stephanos fights to separate his personal life and the immortal world by swearing off demi-god girlfriends forever. Too bad his newest employee can't take the hint.

Though Nikki secretly pines for her smoking hot boss, no way will she jeopardize her job and independence professing her love to a guy so clearly out of her league. Too bad that leaves her with only imagining him naked and thinking evil thoughts about the new girl. After a single bottle of Ambrosia and one night of passion... Nikki finally thinks she has a chance with the man of her dreams. But the next morning, Tor pretends like nothing happened, leaving Nikki with an emerging drive for combat—after all, turns out she is the daughter of Ares and she's about to make her mama proud.

All is fair in love and war... and Nikki's not about to let anyone forget it.

My Review:  5 stars
Nikki and Tor have a working relationship, and it's just perfect as far at Tor is concerned. Nikki on the other hand, isn't so happy. She's certain Tor has no idea she even has feelings for him. One business dinner changes everything - for Nikki. There's some Ambrosia and Tor drinks it, which leads to a night of unbridled passion between Nikki and Tor; which catches Nikki completely, but happily off guard. Except that Tor doesn't exactly remember what happened. And that makes Nikki an unhappy girl. But Nikki comes up with great ways of making Tor pay attention to her while torturing him all at once. This book had me laughing in places, and wanting to punch a certain demigod for his lack of attention to Nikki in others.

I knew just from reading the blurb about this book that I would love it. And I do. All things Gods, Goddesses, mythological related - any pantheon - I love reading the new stories that people come up with. Let's face it, the Gods and Goddesses have been around for a long time, so bringing them forward in time only produces more possibilities for fabulous stories. Boone has done just that. This was a great read from beginning to end. Very well written, the story just flowed from one scene to the next. The characters were well thought out, especially Tor and Nikki. Stacy and Creed were great supporting characters who helped move the storyline and other things along. I thought that the way Boone wrote Ares was excellent. Nikki skillfully managed Ares into doing what she wanted. I was laughing so hard in those scenes. Like father, like daughter. Priceless. Boone is definitely on my future to read list.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
