Title: Unforeseen Heartbeat (Second Chances #2)
Author: Maureen Mayer
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: February 24, 2014

Synopsis for Unforeseen Heartbeat:
Used… Broken… Confused…

It only took one drunken mistake four years ago for Maddie Harrington to learn that when you fully give yourself over to a man, you should never expect anything in return. Since that night, her views on love have become distorted, believing men would only want her for the pleasure her body could bring them. She in turn finds herself hooking up with random guys but never keeps them around long enough to see if there could possibly be something more.

That is…until Hunter Bryant enters the picture.

When the handsome pre-med student shows up in the right place at the right time, captivating her with his stormy gaze, she immediately pushes him away, thinking he’s no different than any other guy. The deeper Hunter delves into her life, trying to break through her iron-clad walls, the more she begins to question whether she is truly capable of opening her heart up to another man.

Maddie soon finds herself forced to make a difficult decision, one that will forever change both of their lives. Will she shut Hunter out of her life for good, or will she finally open up her heart and allow herself the life she never dreamed she deserved?

Unforeseen Heartbeat Book Trailer:

My Review: 5 stars
Once again Maureen has just brought so much to this book. Suggestion - If you have not read Relinquishing Liberty, read that book first. Things just make more sense that way. I loved that Maddie found someone who treated her with respect, and thought of her before himself. Enough so that Maddie started seeing herself in a new way, letting go of the past and focusing on the future that she thinks may be possible. Hunter brings out the best in Maddie, and is such a good guy. He's sweet, caring, thoughtful and wants Maddie to be safe. He teaches her a lot of things, but I think the most important is that she is worthwhile and worth love.
So color me surprised when he did what he did without letting Maddie have a say or choice in the matter. I wanted to slap him upside his pretty little head - hard. I felt so bad for Maddie, but he made his choice, and she wasn't going to try and change his mind after everything he said to her. I didn't blame her one bit. She went ahead with her plans. When Hunter did come back to Maddie because of something else that happened, I would have been so much meaner than she was. I guess that makes me not a nice person, whatever. I also would have made him work a lot harder than she did, before letting him back in. But I respect her choice.
I really loved the end of the book with everything happening for Shayne and Liberty as well as Hunter and Maddie. I think that Brett needs his own book. I also think that maybe he wasn't so much upset about what was going on with Shayne and Liberty, but felt left out and alone. Not a good place to be.
Maureen always finds a way to connect me with the characters and this book was no exception. I connected with Maddie on so many different levels, I laughed and cried right along with her. I felt the pain and the loss of someone, and I felt how afraid she was because of all the other things that were happening. The story line was fast moving, with action and romance, a little bit of drama, and some suspense thrown in there too. I love Maureen's writing, and will continue to be a fan for as long as she writes. She's drawn me in, and I just can't get enough. I can't wait to read the next book, Shayne's Story.

Author Bio:

Maureen Mayer was born, raised and currently resides in Buffalo, NY with her loving and supportive family and boyfriend of 9+ years. She’s always had a love for the outdoors, and when the city isn’t buried under snow, she can be found hiking, fishing, camping or lying on the beach. She’s a sucker for off-color humor, but holds a sweet spot for sick and twisted horror films. When she’s not writing, you can find her curled up in bed with her kindle, diving into a steamy romance novel and falling in love with the latest book boyfriend.
