Synopsis
Liam “Hunter” Blake hates the Reapers MC. Born and raised a Devil’s Jack, he knows his duty. He’ll defend his club from their oldest enemies—the Reapers—using whatever weapons he can find. But why use force when the Reapers’ president has a daughter who’s alone and vulnerable? Hunter has wanted her from the minute he saw her, and now he has an excuse to take her.

Em has lived her entire life in the shadow of the Reapers. Her overprotective father, Picnic, is the club’s president. The last time she had a boyfriend, Picnic shot him. Now the men in her life are far more interested in keeping her daddy happy than showing her a good time. Then she meets a handsome stranger—a man who isn't afraid to treat her like a real woman. One who isn't afraid of her father. His name is Liam, and he’s The One.

Or so she thinks.

My Review: 5 stars
I know it's just wrong to say so, but this is the first book in this series I've had the pleasure of reading. I loved every single page from the first to the last. This isn't your typical romance, not by far. This is complicated and oh so messy. I feel badly for Em, having grown up with so many people watching over her, ensuring that she remains untouched. She is the princess of the Club, so it's to be expected a bit. How over protective they are is unreal, and the thing that really got to me was when her dad said he had always wanted for her to be with a Reaper. Well, none of them were willing to stand up to Picnic and fight for her. So in my opinion, she ended up where she did because of that.
Liam is a Devil's Jack, the rival MC to the Reapers. When Em starts talking to him, she doesn't know that. But that's been the plan all along for Liam or Hunter as he's called by the Jacks. Things go south real fast the first time they meet, and it's only through Em's cleverness that everyone involved remains alive. She knows what it takes to be in the MC and even if she doesn't know all the club business, she knows enough. This was a wild ride with lots of accusations and rivals popping up from out of nowhere to inflict damage on both clubs.
Liam finally figures out what it is he wants and he wants Em. It's not that easy after everything that's already gone down though. He takes that stand that no one else has been willing to and puts himself on the line not just once for her, but over and over again. He makes it clear not just to his club, but hers as well, that she is his and he'll do whatever it takes to keep her. I loved that about him. There's a lot more to the story, it's not simple and straight forward. It's a complex weave of the MC rivaly, cartels, and a power struggle in one of the clubs. I absolutely loved it and will go back to read the first two books in the series to see what I've missed. 10 stars wouldn't be enough for this book, and if I'm right, it's not enough for any of them. I will continue to keep an eye out for Joanna's work. It was very entertaining and insightful, her characters are wonderfully flawed and the pace of the book was relentless. I loved it all.
