The Mean Girl Apologies by Stephanie Monahan with Giveaway & Review

Book Title: The Mean Girl Apologies
Author: Stephanie Monahan

Book Synopsis:
You know that catchy song you keep hearing on the radio?
It’s about you.
Natalie Jamison has spent five years trying to forget the girl she was in high school: popular, pretty…and, okay, mean. Now in her twenties and living once again in her small town, she’s right back where she was: following Queen Bee Amber and keeping secrets from her best friend, Sarah.
Secrets like Jack Moreland.
Everyone knows Jack Moreland—his new album, Good Enough, is everywhere. He’s famous. Impossibly handsome. Completely untouchable. But what none of Natalie’s old clique knows is that in high school, Natalie and Jack fell in love. And their secret relationship was incredible, painful—and earth-shattering enough to inspire an entire album.
Facing friends and enemies isn’t easy, but Natalie will go to great lengths to prove she is good enough—to her friends, to herself, and most of all, to the small-town boy turned worldwide heartthrob she never forgot.

My Review: 5 stars
This book brought me back to high school days. While I wasn't ever one of those girls who was super popular, I can feel for Natalie. I still don't quite get how you can hang out with a bunch of people just to be popular, probably because I would have been the group that hung out with Fiona. Natalie realizes while in high school that her "friends" aren't really that. She can't stand to be around them, but at the same time doesn't want to go back to being a nobody so she endures. It costs her though, and she knows it. Natalie is back hanging out with these people and she realizes that they haven't changed a bit. They're still living like they're in high school, and Natalie has some choices to make.
Back in high school Natalie had a relationship with Jack, who was an unpopular kid and musician, that none of her freinds knew about, she kept him hidden from them because she thought she knew what would happen. For the most part, she's right. Because five years later it happens all too real.
When Jack's song hits the radio, she knows it was meant for her, and when she listens to the entire album, she REALLY knows it was all about her. Natalie makes a list of people she needs to apologize to for her past behavior. It's not long, just four people, but they're important to her because even when she was doing it, she knew it was wrong. The worst was the way she treated Jack, and she comes up with a grand gesture to apologize to him that really blows up in her face. She comes to terms with losing those "friends" that she's back around now, and does her best to move forward. She makes those apologies in person, but really, the only forgiveness she wants is from Jack.
I loved the way this book went back and forth in time, so that you knew first hand how Natalie treated people then and how she's dealing with it now. I loved that she finally found a true, good friend in Gillian, and that she does the best she can now to move forward and come clean about everything in her past. I loved the way this book ended and would be beyond happy to see a sequel to find out what happens next not only for for Jack and Natalie, but also for Gillian and Sarah. This book brought a lot of emotions up, and I really loved the characters. Stephanie did a fantastic job with enabling me to connect to them and wrote a fabulous story also.
