Burned In Shadows by Tigris Eden Review with Excerpt

Synopsis:

Royce Zarides has accepted his hand dealt by fate. He's loved and left far too many women. In the bedroom that is. But one kiss from Belinda Raine Ignis was all it took for his eyes to open. Is she really the woman meant for him and his brother Ronin? Or will history only repeat itself? That's the million dollar question he doesn't want to answer.

Ronin does not believe that Belinda is for him and his brother. But one night with her isn't enough. Even when he sees her for who and what she really is, Ronin still has a hard time expressing his emotions where Belinda is concerned, and time is running out now that she's to ascend to the status of Matria of the Phoenix Enclave.

Belinda (Bells) Ignis is good at ignoring men. She's had her share of heartache. Jilted at the altar by her first love, she's sworn all men off for good. Her mother and Matria of her community has other plans in mind, as well as the Zarides brothers. When faced with the heated glances of Ronin and the smooth tongue of Royce, what's a girl to do?

The clock is ticking down for certain members of the Shadow Unit. Draven assumed dead, leaves a sour taste in every ones mouth. Jes' new found abilities make for a great addition to the team. But when things seem to settle, they only get worse, as the team sets out to discover the origins of Mr. Black and the notorious Red Sun Organization. Secrets are uncovered and deals are made that result in a deadly blow to all involved.

Excerpt:

“Again.” Royce’s voice was hard as Jes got into stance. It was funny watching her friend practice with the twins. Jesminda Zealand was no longer human, and it showed. A large smile spread wide across Belinda’s lips. Her girl was bad-ass. Ronin charged from one end of the training room and Royce from the other. The grace of her movements was envious as she threw her entire body into a sprint and quickly dropped to her knees sliding under both men’s swords as they swung in unison. Her body was stronger, leaner and harder edged. Every move she made was precise and timed perfectly. She’d picked up fast on the training, and it seemed her body was shaped for fighting. It’d be her turn next, and she was ready to hand both men their balls. They’d been riding her for over a week. Ronin was always up front with his intentions, but his twin Royce was a different story. She couldn’t figure them out. It seemed she was just another conquest. Ronin approached her first and then Royce, with his never ending sarcastic remarks and movie quotes. Should she give in? No, you can’t. You’re the next heir in line. Mother would die of embarrassment.

The sounds of grunts and fists connecting to skin brought Bells out of her thoughts. Jes’ hand connected to Royce’s jaw, her punch was powerful enough to snap his head back. Ronin simultaneously connected to her gut. In slow motion, it would have been comical. Jes hitting Royce, Ronin hitting her. Her friend doubled over and stumbled back, but Ronin moved forward. She’d made tremendous progress over the last six weeks and still managed to stump them all with her astonishing new abilities.

“Fuck!”

“Don’t drop your guard Jes, never assume your opponent will give you that momentary breath you may need to use for your second wind.”

Jes was doubled over, sucking in large gulps of air and Bells almost went to comfort her, almost. Ronin walked closer. Jes’ hands tightened on her knees as she sucked in more air. Bells felt her friend’s anger rising like a tidal wave. Any moment she would come crashing down. Hard. Ronin placed a hand on her back as a comforting gesture. It was strange to see him being so warm and accommodating. When Ronin’s hand landed lightly on Jes’ shoulder, her head shot up. She used the balls of her feet to progress her upward movement. The sound of her head connecting with his chin was dull. It was the sound of his teeth clacking together that gave everyone pause. Did she shatter them?

My Review: 5 stars

Excellent read. I loved the fact that all these people were fighters, lovers, had families, everything. Tigris has created such a fantastical world. The characters are engaging, funny, soulful, and sweet. They're also deadly. This book is about so much more than the relationship between Belinda, Ronin and Royce, although those scenes could light a place on fire. It's also about family and teamwork, faith in each other and believing in each other. I highly recommend this series. It'll knock your socks off.

About the Author:

There is really not much to say... I love to write, read, and listen to music. My attempt at a music career sadly ended at the Apollo one warm night in May! LOL (Side note: I was not booed just outdone by two munchkins rapping to Biggy Smalls but they were good!)

Military brat extraordinaire; have traveled to a lot of interesting places.

The very first time I put pen to paper in story fashion, was in 6th grade. It was called The Case of the Missing Pepperoni.

It was a cute mystery where all the ingredients and shop appliances came to life when the store owner closed up for the evening.
